RUGBY

TOKI POUNAMU Film Festival

Today we went to the Regent Theatre and watched the Toki Pounamu Film Festival. My favourite film was the robbery because it was different to the others. I found it cool because they had some awesome slow motion clips. They had a cool story line, because it was a robbery and it had more props than the others and more clips. I liked the part where the robber fell asleep. Finally, I liked that it was longer than most of the other films. I like The film festival a lot because it was fun seeing the things that everyone had made.

Tim the Kiwi

We have been learning to make a collage on Google Drawing. We had to use the explore, mask and arrange tools to get our collage to come together. We had to make a NZ bird and put it into its habitat. It was a lot of fun and I am really pleased with my bird. Have you ever had a go at this?

Where they live

A Weta lives in a rotten log or you mainly see a tree weta in a rotten log. You can mostly see  some tree weta in a hole in a tree. Some weta you might find in your firewood pile. Tusked weta sometimes  burrow into the ground and leaves. Tree weta live in a group of 10 or more .Cave weta are mostly in caves near the ocean shore. Ground weta normally live on the ground near trees. Giant weta normally live in forest and grassland and some giant weta live in caves live in Alpine trees.Tusks weta are mostly found in the same place where giant weta live. They live in alpine forests, urban gardens and grasslands.

What is a weta

Weta are a native insect to New Zealand.
Weta are invertebrates and they have an exoskeleton. An invertebrate is an animal that has its skeleton on the outside which is  an exoskeleton. They don’t have a spine, weta look like crickets they have six long legs. They have two antennae . They have ears on their knees. They have an abdomen.

Fedding

Most weta eat leaves, seeds, seed heads, lichen off any place that lichen grows, fruit and flowers. Some kinds of weta like carrots.

Bredding

Weta lay their eggs at night. They lay 2 hundred eggs in their whole life. They use their ovipositor to lay their eggs by sticking their ovipositor in the ground and then they push  out the eggs.

Threats

Most weta threats are birds. Birds are the biggest threats to weta because they can just fly down and attack them. Cave weta mostly get attacked by Bats and rats . Hedgehogs mostly  attack tree weta because they are easy to catch. Cats can eat wetas so quick.

How can we Help

We can help by not making traps or wrecking their habitat.
