What now

 

On sunday the 13th of september the year 6,7 and 8s went to Shanty Town for What Now TV show.It started at 8am but we had to be there at 7 so they could see how many people were coming. The people that were taking the show were Erin,Matt,Matt and Morgan .I found Morgan the funniest because he was making fun or Erin because when we were waiting for it to be our turn on the show Morgan was showing us what Erin and the kids had to do. The first thing we did was get a clip of us getting off the train.We did it like 10 times so we could see how we needed to get the right clip.It was funny because they told us when you get off the train give the camra your biggest wave . The second thing we did was where we talked about why we loved the west coast.Seth said he liked fishing. Olive said how it's beautiful and Billie w talked about the bike trail .then everyone sang happy Birthday to Lilly . Thirdly we went to the fire station and we did, say it don't spray it. It was funny because they had to do a tongue twister it was Sheila seldom sells shelled shrimps at Shanty Town.The kids that did say it don't spray it was Zade,Emma,Mia,Lucy and Olive. Fourthly we went into the movie theaters and they played a movie they made the day before.But we did not see the movie but they showed it on tv I watched it when I got home and it was pretty funny.Erin said the movie was bad so she made us walk out the movie theater scream why did I pay for that movie and saying omg trash. Fithly we went to gold panning that was so fun I was next to Tyler and Noah M.Noah and I thought that we found 3 paces but we didn't know because they walked away when we went to show them the gold. After gold panning we went to the school at shanty town where we Gunged Mrs Newton it was super funny because when the gunge fell on her goggles fell off.The rule was that Erin would ask her a question and if she got it right then we got foamed and if she got it wrong then she got gunged.She got three questions right and then she got one wrong the splash she got gunged. Lastly we meet outside the post office and then Erin got the foam gun and sprayed everyone with it.After that clip was down I looked like frosty the snowman.It was pretty cool because they gave us our own bottle of gunge.When I opened the bottle it exploded in my hand and then I was slimy snowman. In conclucion I believe that the What Now avent was super fun.If they come back I hope i can go again.

Lake Daniell

 Lake daniell  

 We went to Lake Daniells. We went on the 9th of September. I went with Donna Hampton, Billie H, Callan, Breanna,  Emma and the whole class.

We went because it was for our William Pike project. I like the William Pike challenge because we can get out of class and do super fun activities like the Lake Daniell walk, the beach cookout ,skiing and a lot of others that we get to do.

Before we even left we had to learn about Hypothermia, how it is caused and what Hypothermia was.We watched a video about leaving no trace which means do not break down trees or bushes. 

You have to go on the Lewis Pass to get to Lake Daniell.I thought the drive to lake daniell was going to be a long drive but it was pretty short. When we were on the way it was fun because we were playing music as loud as it could go and it was  9 in the morning. 

When we got to Marble Hill it was warmer than I expected I thought it was going to be super cold. It was 7 degrees and it was pretty warm if you ask me.

It was an 8.5 km walk. I liked it because it had hills to climb and a lot of roots to walk over. The hut is named after Phillip Nicholls and Sharon Manson because they died from a landslide.

I enjoyed  that we were allowed to walk with our mates. I walked with  Jack PSK, Flynn Swinburn and Charlie Frost. It was super funny because Jack PSK was carrying a broken tree that he found on the track to the lake. When we got to the lake we had our lunch and then we said our goodbyes to the broken tree. I didn't like it when Jack PSK found the first dead tree because when he picked it up, it snapped in half but it was pretty funny though. 

I really appreciated that the parents said that they could come and transport us to Lake Daniell. The only reason we got there was because of the parents. If the parents did not say they could come then we couldn't have gone.So thanks again to the parents. 

I wonder how many steps the whole class and parents did throughout the whole day?

Beach cook out

Room 8 went to the beach on the first of July. We went there because it was for our William Pike Challenge and learning how to make a safe fire is a great survival skill. The only reason we got down there were the parents. If the parents weren’t there we would not have had enough supervision. I really enjoyed making the fires, that was my favorite part. We used tinder, fuel wood and kindling. My group made a teepee shape but it broke so we just let it be but it still did the job of cooking our food. It was a super fun day. Next time I definitely want to cook little weenie dogs.Tyler, Nathan, Korban and I . We all had a turn cooking our food.The food was so good! We used creek water and a little bit of sand to put out the fire. We did this so the fire wouldn't start up again.

The teacher stood up in front of the class and said, “Kia ora everyone. We have a new student in class today.  Please introduce yourself to the class…”
“Hi, I am Kade from the USA.”

At the start I was so scared because I thought I would have nobody to talk to or play with . Then James Rhodes came and said, “Do you play sports like rugby?”
I said, “No. I Have played football though.”
James said, “Oh, we like to play football here too.”

After school my new friend James said, “After school do you want to come to the skatepark?”
I said, “What is at the skatepark?”

James said, “There are lots of gnarly kickers and quarter pipes.”
 “What does gnarly mean?” I asked.
James replied, “Gnarly means something that is very easy or very hard.”

We arrived at the skatepark and it was not what I expected. When James said, “There are some gnarly kickers!”
“I thought we would be kicking a ball,” I said.
James looked at me and shook his head and laughed.

James started to ride. He said, “Look at me shredding this quarter.”
I'm sort of getting the meaning of these skateboarding words.

I have never rode a skateboard but I was down to try, so at the start James was pushing me on the flat ground. Oh no, bang! What was that little snake doing in the way.
James said,”Okay, pause the story. Snake! I thought there were no Snakes in New Zealand!”
Back to the story.

 I said to James,”I did not hit a snake. I hit a little kid.”
James said,  “Exactly! A kid that runs in front of you is a snake. I think we should have a little break!

After our break  I tried again. I have sort of got the hang of the Skateboard so James let me go on my own. I can ride down ramps.
James said, “I think it's time you learn to ride down a bank.”

In my head I'm thinking, “What the heck there is a bank at the skatepark!”
Then James showed me the bank and I was like oh! That looks simple. I tried it and then smacked onto the ground.

James runs to me and says, “Are you okay?
I say to James, “Does it look like I’m okay? I’m on the ground!”

He picked me up off the ground and said, “Send it again and show it whose the boss!! SO I sent it and I did it. James came running and said, “Let’s go Kade.”  Now I am a pro skater .
